The Government of Canada congratulates Cook's Ferry Indian Band on the completion of their new housing project

The Government of Canada is making significant investments to improve housing, reduce overcrowding, and improve quality of life for First Nation community residents.

Today, the Honourable Jane Philpott, Minister of Indigenous Services, offered her congratulations to Cook's Ferry Indian Band in British Columbia on the completion of their new duplex project.

Through their comprehensive community plan, Cook's Ferry Indian Band identified a need for additional housing to accommodate their growing population. The Band began construction of the three duplexes in spring 2017. They were built using energy-efficient technologies and some of the units are wheelchair accessible.

Indigenous Services Canada contributed $1.5 million for the new housing.

  • Cook's Ferry Indian Band is part of the Nlaka'pamux Nation located in the Central Interior of British Columbia. The Band is a member of the Nicola Tribal Association.

  • As of June 2018, the Band has a population of 275 living off reserve and 52 members on reserve.
