22 First Nations communities in Quebec, the First Nations Education Council and the Government of Canada to make a historic announcement on education

Kahnawake, Quebec — Please be advised that Indigenous Services, the First Nations Education Council (FNEC) and its 22 member communities will be signing a regional education agreement.

To mark this event, the Honourable Patty Hadju, Minister of Indigenous Services; Ghislain Picard, Regional Chief of the Assembly of First Nations Quebec-Labrador; John Martin, Chief of Gesgapegiag and Chief Responsible for Education; and Kahsennénhawe Sky-Deer, Grand Chief of Kahnawà:ke, will be speaking at a press conference. They will be accompanied by the Chiefs and Grand Chiefs of the FNEC member communities, as well as the Director General, Denis Gros-Louis.

This historic agreement will support the academic success of First Nations students in Quebec. It will ensure quality education based on community models, priorities and realities while promoting their cultures and languages.

The details of the agreement will be revealed at a press conference, and a ceremony will follow the announcement.

Date: July 14, 2022
Time: The press conference will begin at 10 a.m. (ET). Media are invited to attend the signing ceremony following at 11:00 a.m. (ET).
