National capital region location offers new model for government-business collaboration

November 9, 2017 – Ottawa ON

Canadian entrepreneurs will be able to see government in action with the move of a federal public service innovation space to Bayview Yards.

Today, the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Michael Tremblay, President and CEO of Bayview Yards and Invest Ottawa, announced that the Innovation Lab hosted by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) will be embedded directly within the innovation ecosystem of Canada’s National Capital Region.

The Innovation Lab was set up to build capacity and create a more modern and user-centric public service. It uses innovative methodologies to solve complex policy, program/service or regulatory challenges in the public service. And with its co-location at the Bayview Yards innovation hub, the Lab will be well placed to meet the needs of Canada’s innovators and entrepreneurs.

Bayview Yards is Ottawa’s one-stop business acceleration shop and an epicentre of job creation. This non-profit provides technical, business and market capabilities that help entrepreneurs and firms launch, grow and thrive in the global economy.

Invest Ottawa is the lead economic development agency for the nation’s capital. The agency delivers programs and services that advance innovation, business acceleration, investment and trade, as well as increase entrepreneurial momentum, wealth and job creation.
