Minister Duncan joins Governor General on research icebreaker in Canada’s Arctic

Ottawa, Ontario, August 30, 2018—The Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science and Sport, will join Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, on an expedition in the Arctic Ocean aboard Canada’s research icebreaker CCGS Amundsen.

During the visit, the Minister will meet with the mayor and councillors of Pangnirtung, Nunavut, and members of the community to discuss how climate change affects their lives. Minister Duncan will express her support for the importance of including Indigenous knowledge in research.

In addition, the Minister will meet researchers who are working hard to monitor and address the effects of climate change in Canada’s polar environment.

The Minister will be available for media calls upon her return from the expedition.
