CIPO partners with GLIPA to promote awareness of intellectual property

News release

November 26, 2025 – Gatineau, Quebec – Canadian Intellectual Property Office

On October 23, 2025, the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) and the Global Intellectual Property Alliance (GLIPA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to advance collaboration and promote the benefits of intellectual property (IP) to innovators. This partnership also seeks to develop and raise awareness of IP outreach and education programs to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

This new MOU will be in effect for two years. It aims to:

  • identify alignment within existing, respective IP outreach and education programs
  • determine approaches to increase the reach of IP education programs, including to traditionally underrepresented groups within the IP ecosystem
  • promote awareness of the benefits of IP by organizing appropriate services, programs and training

Both CIPO and GLIPA have long recognized the importance of increasing awareness and knowledge of IP among innovators. This partnership formalizes the ongoing collaboration between the two organizations and will help ensure that innovators have the resources they need to successfully develop their innovations and commercialize their creations.
