On May 25, the Vice Chief of the Defence Staff (VCDS), Vice-Admiral Bruce Donaldson, visited the Canadian Forces Grievance Board (CFGB). During his visit, the VCDS met with the Board’s Chairperson, Mr. Bruno Hamel, and the Vice-Chairperson, Mr. James Price, to discuss the Canadian Forces (CF) grievance process. The Vice-Admiral also met with CFGB staff members and praised the Board’s outstanding service to CF members.

I would like to begin by thanking you all for your hard work and also your flexibility in this time of uncertainty for everyone in the federal government, said the VCDS as he addressed the staff after his brief meeting with the Chairperson. I am glad that I have the opportunity to be here today and meet all of you, he added.

The VCDS spoke about the recent changes and the work force adjustments affecting most of the federal departments and organizations. I know you are aware of the transformation undertaken at the Department of National Defence triggered by the Strategic Review and the implementation of the Deficit Reduction Action Plan. In the end, we have to look at this as an opportunity offered to us to revamp areas where the input doesn’t necessarily match the results. Many difficult decisions had to be made but the ultimate result will be a better, more streamlined Force where all resources are used in the most efficient way for the benefit of all men and women in uniform who serve in Canada and abroad, said Vice-Admiral Donaldson.

The excellent work and determination of the people at this Board contributed to several of the CF recent successes. You should be proud of that, concluded the VCDS.
