The Plains of Abraham Museum again makes a name for itself! A Prix Excellence for the temporary exhibition Québec 1775: Blizzards and Battle
News release
Québec City, Friday, October 10, 2025 – The National Battlefields Commission (NBC) is proud to announce that the Plains of Abraham Museum is the winner of a Prix Excellence from the Société des musées du Québec (SMQ) for its temporary exhibition Québec 1775: Blizzards and Battle. This exhibition of art and history is accessible to the public until January 4, 2026 – only a few months remain to discover it.
Through this award, Quebec’s museum community recognizes the excellence of the exhibition and its contribution to the advancement of museology in Quebec. For the museum service staff of the National Battlefields Commission, the prestigious award is doubly significant because it was granted for their last two temporary exhibitions, both of which were original creations. Aeria also received a Prix Excellence in 2023.
“It is through the talent, knowledge, and rigour of our museum service team that we have been able to design, in collaboration with local artists, original exhibitions that make a lasting impression. This recognition again confirms the place of the Plains of Abraham Museum as a leading cultural institution in Quebec, and underscores the exceptional quality of our temporary exhibitions,” says Stéphane Roy, Director of Museum Services at the National Battlefields Commission.
Last chance to visit the exhibition Québec 1775: Blizzards and Battle
Presented until January 4, 2026, Québec 1775: Blizzards and Battle carries its visitors off to the thick of the action during the attempted American invasion of Québec City, 250 years ago. Through six original works of art, a soundtrack, and historical representations, it presents four high points of the winter siege of 1775. Guided by the voice of Baboche, a feminist figure who actually played the role of an informant during the event, and by works of art supported by digital media, visitors relive the sorrows, dilemmas, and exploits of ordinary people grappling with an uncommon situation.
The museum service staff are already preparing the next temporary exhibition, to be opened in June 2026. It will showcase the rich natural heritage of the Plains of Abraham.
The Plains of Abraham Museum: a must-see for people from all over Quebec
Though still poorly known to some Quebeckers, the Plains of Abraham Museum annually welcomes tens of thousands of people. Local visitors will discover permanent and temporary exhibitions, as well as a varied program of activities available year-round both inside and out. All of this is offered in a unique setting, at the heart of an emblematic historic site.
At the same time, the Museum welcomes school groups through its educational activities, which are brought to life by characters dressed in period costumes and which address themes from the 17th to 20th centuries. Last year, over 60,000 people took part in its activities, making this institution a leader in organized group activities.
