National Seniors Council work priorities
The Minister of Jobs and Families and the Minister of Health set the National Seniors Council's work priorities.
In the 2024 federal budget, the government announced the establishment of a Sectoral Table on the Care Economy that will consult and provide recommendations to the government of Canada. It also indicated its intention to launch consultations on the development of a national caregiving strategy.
Accordingly, Ministers directed the National Seniors Council to support these 2 initiatives as follows:
- prepare a comprehensive presentation on older adults as caregivers and care recipients for the Sectoral Table
- participate in consultations to develop a national caregiving strategy
Once these initiatives are completed, the National Seniors Council will focus on the 2 following priorities:
- health and well-being
- safety and security
Each priority is intended to inform future policy work related to the well-being and quality of life of older persons in Canada.
