National Seniors Council work priorities
The Minister of Jobs and Families and the Minister of Health set the National Seniors Council's work priorities.
In 2024, the Ministers directed the National Seniors Council to:
- prepare a comprehensive presentation on older adults as caregivers and care recipients
- participate in consultations to develop a national caregiving strategy
Following the completion of its priorities related to the care economy, the National Seniors Council is now focusing on the following two areas:
- health and well-being
- safety and security
As such, the Council is planning on:
- developing a Policy Dialogue on housing and aging in place to understand the correlation between housing and the health and well-being of older adults
- supporting the development of a voluntary code of conduct for the prevention of economic abuse to help protect older adults
- conducting consultations on the cost of living for lower and middle-income older Canadians to better understand their challenges and needs
Each priority is intended to inform future policy work related to the well-being and quality of life of older persons in Canada.
