Backgrounder

Don Ferguson

Don Ferguson is a seasoned executive with 35 years in the New Brunswick Public Service, including 11 years at the Deputy Minister level. Don has considerable experience in the management of major projects.

Don is currently the Chief Strategy Officer at the New Brunswick Institute of Research, Data and Training, which is responsible for carrying out evidence-based research to provide government, academics and researchers with information to inform decisions that affect New Brunswickers. He is also the Co-Principal at On Point Consulting, a management consulting firm that provides support for leaders of public sector organizations with strategic challenges rooted in governance, organizational design and capacity, policy development and leadership.

He holds a bachelor of science in geology from the University of New Brunswick and an honorary doctorate in public administration from the Université de Moncton.

Carole Malo

Carole Malo’s 25-year career has focused on the development, procurement and implementation of large energy and infrastructure projects (oil and gas pipelines, transmission and distribution electricity lines, thermal and hydro generation plants) in Canada and internationally. She has held senior roles in both the private and public sector including Vice-President, SNC-Lavalin Capital; Director, Investment Projects and Affiliates, Hydro-Quebec; and Vice-President, Project Finance, Infrastructure Ontario.

Carole currently runs her own consultancy firm specialized in providing independent strategic advice and support to public and private sector organizations as well as First Nations in Quebec and Ontario in the infrastructure, energy and public-private partnerships sectors.

Carole serves on the Board of the Hamilton Utilities Corp, the Advisory Board of TOK Transit Corporation and the Strategic and Finance Committee of several not-for-profit organizations including the Massey Centre for Women and the Badminton and Racquet Club of Toronto. She recently received a fellowship in board governance from the Canadian Board Diversity Council. Carole holds a bachelor of finance degree from the Hautes Études Commerciales in Montreal and is a CFA charterholder.

Marc Paquin

Marc Paquin is a lawyer whose career has included positions focused on sustainable development, environmental assessments and environmental law, public hearings, corporate social responsibility, international trade and negotiations.

Since 2002, Marc has served as President and Chief Executive Officer for the UNISFÉRA International Centre, an independent advisory think tank focused on governance, sustainability, corporate responsibility, climate change and international development. Since 2014, he has also concurrently served as a part-time member of the Bureau d’audiences publiques sur l’environnement  with the Government of Quebec.

Marc Paquin holds a bachelor of laws degree from the Université de Montréal and a master of laws from McGill University. He also holds a master in business administration from the Université du Québec à Montréal. He has been a member of the Bar of Quebec since 1988.
