Ottawa — Join Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, the Honourable Jim Carr, as he hosts the Generation Energy Forum from October 11-12, 2017, in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Since Generation Energy was launched in April 2017, more than 200,000 Canadians from all ages and walks of life have engaged in conversations in person and online to share their visions for Canada’s energy future.
Some 500 people – from youth to industry, academic, Indigenous and community leaders – will come together in Winnipeg to explore Canada’s path to affordable energy, the next generation in technology and innovation, energy governance and Canada’s role in the global energy transition.
Some of the greatest challenges in charting this course will be addressing climate change while keeping energy affordable, ensuring there are jobs for Canadians, and keeping our industries competitive.
Key Facts:
- Generation Energy has reached over 200,000 Canadians – from elementary students to PhD candidates; from Indigenous communities to entrepreneurs and industry representatives – through polls, online forums, workshops and events over the past six months.
- Canadians from across the country have been eager, genuine and thoughtful in sharing their aspirations on getting Canada to a low carbon future.
- Speakers at the Forum will include international energy experts such as:
- Jeremy Rifkin – President, Foundation on Economic Trends and Advisor to the European Union;
- Fatih Birol – Executive Director, International Energy Agency;
- Eldar Saetre – Chief Executive Officer, Statoil Global;
- Annette Verschuren – Founder and Chief Executive Officer, NRStor; and
- Elyse Allen – President and Chief Executive Officer, GE Canada.
