Energy efficiency strengthens competitiveness, lowers costs, maximizes profits and supports our environment. Promoting and rewarding energy-efficient practices are key components of Canada’s approach to a clean energy future.

The Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, today announced a $1.8-million investment in Energy Efficiency Alberta to support energy management for commercial and institutional facilities in Alberta aimed at cutting pollution.

The announcement was made at the Alberta Energy Efficiency Alliance Summit, where the Minister highlighted the Government of Canada’s commitment to energy efficiency projects that help promote Canada’s energy and climate change objectives. Energy Efficiency Alberta will use the funding to deliver strategic energy management training to 14 industrial facilities, including oil and gas facilities, to implement energy management systems.

Energy management systems help companies to track and analyze their energy use and identify the most cost-effective ways to reduce energy use and save money.

On average, the participants’ facilities will see an annual five-percent reduction in energy use and greenhouse gas emissions, resulting in increased profitability and competitiveness.

Through Generation Energy, Canada's national energy dialogue, Canadians expressed that they want to see Canada continuing to be a leader in the transition to a clean growth economy. Canada will continue to support innovative projects that create jobs, improve industry competitiveness, cut pollution and help address climate change.
