New Electric Vehicle-Related Investments Across Ontario and Canada
Backgrounder
Today, the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Natural Resources, announced a total investment of $13,645,449 in 30 projects to install up to 1,908 Level 2 and 100 Level 3 EV chargers, with the majority located in Ontario. Project details are included in the table below, with funding through Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan) Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP) and Electric Vehicle and Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Deployment Initiative.
Of these new chargers, 995 will be installed at multi-use residential buildings (MURB), 440 will be used by fleets, 299 will be available at public places, and 244 will be installed at workplaces.
NRCan also announced total top-up funding of $10.9 million in five projects through ZEVIP’s delivery organizations to help ultimate recipients install up to 1,328 new EV chargers, primarily in Ontario. The exact location of the chargers will be determined at a later date.
In addition, Lloyd Longfield, Member of Parliament for Guelph, announced a combined federal investment of more than $12 million in four organizations to help install over 1,800 EV chargers in Guelph and across Canada.
Earlier this week, Maninder Sidhu, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, also announced a combined federal investment of $201,000 to help install 40 Level 2 chargers in Kelowna, British Columbia: $120,000 to the City of Kelowna to install 24 new chargers; and $81,000 to Bernard Block Mission Group Homes GP Ltd. to install 16 new chargers.
In total, this week the Government of Canada announced over $35 million in investments in the EV charging ecosystem for communities around Ontario, and across Canada. These investments will result in deploying nearly 150 new fast chargers and over 3,500 new Level 2 chargers.
