The Deputy Prime Minister will provide an update on the government’s economic plan. She will be joined by the President of the King’s Privy Council for Canada and Minister of Emergency Preparedness and Minister responsible for the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada, Harjit Sajjan, the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Jonathan Wilkinson, and the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Steven Guilbeault.
It’s why, in the budget, we are really focused on three things. First, housing—the Prime Minister outlined the key housing policies. Second, affordability, with programs like the dental care plan and ongoing investments in our early learning and child care system, and the absolutely crucial investments for the Canadian economy.
We, the G7 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors, met on 17 April 2024 in Washington, DC, on the margin of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Group Spring Meetings. We were honoured to be joined by the Ukrainian Finance Minister Sergii Marchenko. We were also joined by the Heads of the International Monetary Fund, World Bank Group, Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, and Financial Stability Board.
Our budget is a plan to build more affordable homes; grow our economy in a way that will create good-paying jobs for Canadians and keep Canada at the economic forefront; and strengthen Canada’s social safety net to help make life cost less.
We’re acting now—and acting with purpose—because the cost of inaction today would be borne chiefly by younger Canadians. We would be leaving them behind. And we will not do that. Instead, we will help them realize the promise of Canada with a responsible plan that creates new career opportunities and grows the economy for every generation.
