On January 25, 2022, at approximately 6:00 p.m., two inmates were assaulted at Springhill Institution, a medium-security federal institution. The injured inmates were evaluated by staff members and transported to an outside hospital to receive treatment. One of the inmates has since returned to the institution, while the other inmate remains in hospital.

On January 26, 2022, an inmate from Drumheller Institution died while in our custody following a serious assault in the medium security unit. The assailant has been identified and the appropriate actions have been taken. No staff members or other inmates were injured during this incident.
