Public health has confirmed that two inmates have tested positive for COVID-19 at Port-Cartier Institution in Quebec, a maximum-security facility. These are the first confirmed cases related to inmates in a federal correctional institution.
A lockdown is in place in the medium security unit at Drumheller Institution as a precautionary measure after some inmates showed symptoms consistent with influenza.
On March 24 and 25, 2020, as a result of the vigilance of Correctional Officers, packages containing contraband and unauthorized items were seized at Donnacona Institution, a federal maximum security institution.
On March 16, 2020, as a result of the vigilance of correctional officers, three packages containing contraband and unauthorized items were seized on the perimeter of the medium-security unit at Dorchester Penitentiary. On this same date, correctional officers also intercepted a package containing contraband and unauthorized items that was sent to an inmate.

In the interest of the health and safety of the public, our employees, inmates, and their families, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) has suspended inmate visits from the public in all federal institutions. Other options are available to inmates and their family and friends to stay in contact such as video visitation or telephone.
The lockdown put in place at the medium-security unit at Beaver Creek Institution on March 4, 2020, has ended and an exceptional search has been completed. The institution has resumed its normal operations.
