On June 22, 2023, as a result of the vigilance of staff members, a package containing contraband and unauthorized items was seized on the perimeter of Donnacona Institution, a maximum-security federal institution.
The contraband and unauthorized items seized included, 382 grams of cannabis concentrates, 24 grams of cannabis wax, 380 grams of hashish, 51 grams of methamphetamine, 106 grams of steroids, 76 grams of tobacco and three cell phones with accessories. The total estimated institutional value of this seizure is $291,360.
On June 20, 2023, as a result of the vigilance of staff members, contraband and unauthorized items were seized at the Regional Reception Centre, a multi-level security federal institution.
The contraband and unauthorized items seized included 45 grams of marijuana and 26 grams of methamphetamine- like powder. The total estimated institutional value of this seizure is $19,750.
Between June 11 and 14, 2023, as a result of the vigilance of staff members, contraband and unauthorized items were seized on the perimeter of Drummond Institution, a medium-security federal institution.
The contraband and unauthorized items seized included 513 grams of hashish, 101 grams of marijuana, 42 grams of cannabis wax and one cell phone with accessories. The total estimated institutional value of this seizure is $74 625.
On June 23, 2023, Robert Osmon, an inmate from Dorchester Penitentiary, died while in our custody of apparent natural causes .
At the time of death, the inmate had been serving an indeterminate sentence, which commenced on June 15, 1992 for second-degree murder.
On June 21, 2023, Jean Leduc, an inmate from the Archambault Institution, died while in our custody of apparent natural causes.
At the time of death, the inmate had been serving an indeterminate sentence, which commenced on September 29, 1989, for second degree murder.
The lockdown put in place at Mountain Institution on June 20, 2023 has ended and the exceptional search has been completed. The institution has resumed its normal operations and visits have resumed.
On June 23, 2023, Vuk Peric, an inmate from Warkworth Institution, died while in our custody.
At the time of death, the inmate had been serving a sentence of four years, eight months and 14 days, for offences including possession of a schedule I/II substance for the purpose of trafficking, possess forged documents, and criminal harassment, since June 15, 2021.
On June 20, 2023, Trevor Stewart, an inmate from Joyceville Institution, died while in our custody.
At the time of death, the inmate had been serving a sentence of 2 years for failure to comply with a prohibition order, fraud over $5000, and luring a child under 16 years since May 17, 2023.
On June 16 and 19, 2023, as a result of the vigilance of staff members, several packages containing contraband and unauthorized items were seized at Collins Bay Institution, a multi-level security federal institution.
The contraband and unauthorized items seized included approximately 1.5 kilograms of marijuana, 850 grams of tobacco and rolling papers, as well as cellphones and accessories.
On June 11 and 12, 2023, as a result of the vigilance of staff members, contraband and unauthorized items were seized on the perimeter of Cowansville Institution, a medium-security federal institution.
The contraband and unauthorized items seized included 487 grams of hashish, 56 grams of marijuana, 1 185 tablets of methamphetamine, 2 071 grams of tobacco and two cell phones with accessories. The total estimated institutional value of the items seized is $150 573.
