On March 11, 2023, as a result of the vigilance of staff members, a package containing contraband and unauthorized items was seized at Warkworth Institution, a medium security federal institution. The contraband and unauthorized items seized included approximately 219 grams of marijuana, 200 grams of tobacco and rolling papers, as well as cell phones and accessories.

On February 22, 2023, as a result of the vigilance of staff members, packages containing contraband and unauthorized items were seized on the perimeter of Atlantic Institution, a maximum-security federal institution. The contraband and unauthorized items seized included: • shatter, shatter wax and hybrid marijuana • hashish • methamphetamine pills • bales of tobacco, electronic cigarettes and rolling papers • steroid pills and vials • clomiphene pills • a scale • cell phones, SIM cards and ear buds.

On February 22, 2023, an inmate was the victim of an assault at Springhill Institution, a medium-security federal institution. The injured inmate was evaluated by staff members and transported to an outside hospital to receive treatment and has since returned to the institution.

On February 27, 2023, Eric Amaral, an inmate from Warkworth Institution, died while in our custody. At the time of death, the inmate had been serving an indeterminate sentence, which commenced on April 6, 2017, for offences including second degree murder, assault causing bodily harm, and pointing a firearm.

On February 21 and 22, 2023, as a result of the vigilance of staff members, packages containing contraband and unauthorized items were seized on the perimeter of Cowansville Institution, a medium-security federal institution. The contraband and unauthorized items seized included 444 grams of marijuana, 51 grams of hashish, 377 amphetamine tablets, 100 grams of tobacco, one cellphone and accessories. The total estimated institutional value of this seizure is $71,890.

The contraband and unauthorized items seized included 340 grams of marijuana, 200 grams of tobacco, 30 grams of shatter (cannabis concentrate), as well as a cell phone and accessories.
