The health and safety of our employees, inmates, and the public continue to be our top priority. We are closely monitoring the situation, and measures are in place to minimize spread of the virus within the institution.

On October 29, 2022, an inmate was found to have been victim of an assault at Kent Institution, a maximum-security federal institution. The injured inmate was evaluated by staff members and transported to an outside hospital to receive treatment.

Today, Anne Kelly, the Commissioner of the Correctional Service of Canada, issued the following statement: “I welcome the Office of the Correctional Investigator’s (OCI) annual report. Our response outlines the concrete actions we are taking. To date, we have implemented over 90% of the commitments we put forward in our responses to the OCI’s recommendations in the last 10 years. I recognize there is always more work to do and remain committed to ongoing and continuous progress to implement our commitments, including the new actions put forward in response to today’s report."
