Launch of public consultations on potential collection of information on country of smelt and cast for aluminum imports

The Government of Canada is committed to transparency in the collection and publication of data related to aluminum imports. Today, the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development, announced that public consultations will begin on May 21, 2024, on next steps in the potential collection and publication of information on country of smelt and cast (CSC) for aluminum imports.

The Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of International Development, has concluded a trip to Ethiopia and Tanzania that focused on advancing development initiatives within each of the 2 countries, as well as strengthening our relationships across Africa and with the African Union (AU). During his trip, he announced Canada’s commitment to provide $194 million toward impactful development programming.


Canada imposes sanctions on perpetrators of extremist settler violence against civilians in West Bank

The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that Canada is imposing new sanctions under the Special Economic Measures Act. These are the first sanctions measures listing extremist Israeli settlers. Canada remains concerned with extremist settler violence and will examine additional measures in response to the grave breach of international peace and security posed by their violent and destabilizing actions against Palestinian civilians and their property in the West Bank.
