Canada is extremely concerned by the deepening food and nutrition crisis in the Sahel and Lake Chad regions and its impact on vulnerable groups, such as displaced populations, women and adolescents and children. The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today issued the following statement: “Canada is very concerned by reports of hundreds of civilians killed and injured last week in the context of a counter-terrorism operation in the village of Moura, Mali. We offer our deepest condolences to the families of the civilian victims. Canada condemns in the strongest possible terms this attack on civilians and any violations of international humanitarian law.
The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that Canada intends to impose new sanctions under the Special Economic Measures (Russia) Regulations and the Special Economic Measures (Belarus) Regulations in response to the Russian regime’s illegal and unjustifiable invasion of Ukraine and the Belarusian regime’s support of it.
