February 26, 2021 - The Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade, will deliver remarks at Canada’s first women-led virtual trade mission to Taiwan, which will be hosted by the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada.
Today, the Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met virtually with Antony Blinken, U.S. Secretary of State, to advance work on the Roadmap for a Renewed U.S.-Canada Partnership launched by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and President Joe Biden following their virtual meeting on February 23, 2021.
The Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Honourable Omar Alghabra, Minister of Transport, today congratulated Juan Carlos Salazar, who has been elected as the next Secretary General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
The Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Foreign Affairs, will virtually meet with the United States of America Secretary of State, Antony J. Blinken, to advance the Canada - United States roadmap launched by Prime Minister Trudeau and President Biden. Following the meeting, the Minister will hold a media availability.
“We, the G7 Foreign Ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States of America and the High Representative of the European Union firmly condemn violence committed by Myanmar’s security forces against peaceful protests. We offer condolences for the loss of life. The military and the police must exercise utmost restraint and respect human rights and international law. Use of live ammunition against unarmed people is unacceptable. Anyone responding to peaceful protests with violence must be held to account.”
We remain deeply disturbed by horrific reports of human rights violations in Xinjiang, including the use of arbitrary detention, political re-education, forced labour, torture and forced sterilization. The free vote in Parliament ensures each member can make a determination based on available evidence. Taken together, these views will form Parliament’s view. We welcome parliamentarians working together and debating this critical issue.
The Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Nadine Girault, Quebec’s Minister of International Relations and La Francophonie and Minister of Immigration, Francization and Integration, today congratulated Geoffroi Montpetit on becoming administrator of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (IOF) to support Louise Mushikiwabo, Secretary General of the IOF. The date of Mr. Montpetit’s entry into office will be decided shortly.
Today, the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade, announced that she will lead a group of Canadian business people on a virtual trade mission to France from March 29 to April 1, inclusive, and April 8, with a focus on creating opportunities for businesses to grow and contribute to a sustainable and inclusive economic recovery.
Canada has pledged $81.41 million to the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB)’s Special Development Fund (SDF) over 4 years (2021 to 2024) to support the fund’s critical role in fighting poverty and inequality.
