Today, the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Health, tabled the 2021-2022 Canada Health Act Annual Report in Parliament. This tabling follows the recent announcement of the federal government’s plan to invest $198.6 billion over 10 years, including $48.7 billion in new funding, to improve health care services for Canadians.
On December 1, the Government of Canada began accepting applications for the new, interim Canada Dental Benefit. Through this benefit, we are helping reduce financial barriers by helping families of eligible children under 12 access the dental care they need. Today, we are happy to announce that the Benefit has now helped more than 200,000 children get brighter smiles and healthier teeth.

On October 28, 2022, Public Services and Procurement Canada issued an Invitation to Qualify (ITQ) which invited suppliers with expertise in the field of dental and health claims processing, to express their interest in becoming a qualified supplier. As a result of the ITQ, we can now announce that three suppliers have been qualified to participate in the next phase of the procurement process. Express Scripts Canada, Medavie Inc. and Sun Life Financial Inc. will be providing feedback and recommendations on what could be needed if a third-party service provider were to deliver a program of this scale.
The Honourable Carolyn Bennett, Minister of Mental Health and Addictions and Associate Minister of Health, and the Honourable Jennifer Whiteside, British Columbia Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, will provide joint remarks on the implementation of B.C.’s exemption under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, coming into effect on January 31, 2023.
