Today, the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Canada’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources; the Honourable David Akeeagok, Nunavut’s Minister of Human Resources, Economic Development and Transportation, Mines and Trade; and the Honourable Daniel Qavvik, Nunavut’s Minister of Environment, Energy, Culture and Heritage, announced that Nunavut is formally joining the Regional Energy and Resource Tables (Regional Tables). The Regional Tables are a collaborative initiative among the federal government and individual provinces and territories, alongside Indigenous partners and with the input of key stakeholders, that aim to advance, accelerate and collaborate on the top economic priorities in the energy and resource sectors in each of Canada’s regions as we transition to a net-zero future.

The Honourable Harjit Sajjan, President of the King’s Privy Council for Canada, Minister of Emergency Preparedness and Minister responsible for the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada, was joined by the Honourable Dan Vandal, Minister of Northern Affairs, on behalf of the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, to make an announcement with the Honourable Jamie Moses, Manitoba Minister of Economic Development, Investment, Trade and Natural Resources, to jointly invest $38.4 million over four years under the Government of Canada’s Fighting and Managing Wildfires in a Changing Climate Program – Equipment Fund (FMWCC) to support Manitoba’s efforts to purchase wildland firefighting equipment to enhance provincial readiness and capacity to prepare for and respond to wildland fires.
The Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, announced the first co-investment with the U.S. in two Canadian companies developing deposits of critical minerals — Fortune Minerals Limited located in the Northwest Territories and Lomiko Metals, Inc. in Quebec. The two companies are receiving funding from both Canada and the U.S. to accelerate their projects towards production.
Sean Casey, Member of Parliament for Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, on behalf of the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Canada’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, and alongside the Honourable Steven Myers, Minister of Environment, Energy and Climate Action, announced a federal investment of $1.4 million to the Government of Prince Edward Island to install 13 fast chargers across the province.
The Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, launched the Hydrogen Strategy for Canada: Progress Report. The Report is the result of three years of engagement, research and analysis, including with over 1,000 experts and stakeholders. It highlights the significant investments and notable developments that have advanced Canada’s hydrogen sector since 2020, features projections of hydrogen’s potential role in meeting Canada’s climate objectives and provides a roadmap for next steps and priorities.
The Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, announced the release of the For Our Future: Indigenous Resilience Report, the first Indigenous-led report that draws on Indigenous knowledge, perspectives and experiences to explore multidimensional and intersecting aspects of climate change impacts and adaptation.

Funding from the Government of Canada comes from the Flood Hazard Identification Mapping Program (FHIMP).
While in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories on April 10, Michael McLeod, Member of Parliament for the Northwest Territories, on behalf of the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, announced $5 million in funding to Denendeh Exploration and Mining Company Ltd. (DEMCo) through the Indigenous Natural Resource Partnerships (INRP) Program.
That is why today in Ottawa, at the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Canadian Legislative Conference, the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, announced up to $800,000 in funding for the IAFF to deliver training and increase the capacity of structural firefighters across the country. Structural firefighters refers to those trained to combat fires within enclosed spaces, such as residential homes, commercial buildings, industrial facilities, and public infrastructure. Funding will also support Canada’s wildfire preparedness and response efforts to wildland urban interface fires, those that occur in areas where urban or developed areas meet with wildland or natural environments. Fires in these areas are particularly worrisome in that they pose substantial threats to lives and livelihoods, and the spread of thick smoke and evacuations can cause immense stress and disruption for communities. Addressing wildfires in interface areas is especially critical due to the high concentration of people living in these regions. With approximately 10 percent of the Canadian population residing in interface areas spanning 32 million hectares, the scope of the interface presents a significant challenge in wildfire management.
