OTTAWA — Julie Dabrusin, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources and the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, will participate in a green jobs announcement.
The Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Natural Resources, and Bob Young, Mayor of the City of Leduc, announced a $363,000 contribution to Leduc’s Urban Tree Canopy Expansion project. Leduc will plant 20,000 trees supported by federal funding through the 2 Billion Trees program.
The Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, announced $650,000 in funding for QUEST Canada to evolve and adapt its Accelerating Implementation of Renewable Energy (AIRE) for Indigenous Communities project to expand knowledge of local energy systems and developing pathways to accelerate clean energy opportunities in their community.
The Government of Canada is committed to supporting Canadians as all orders of government work together during the 2023 wildfire season. Across Canada, several provinces and territories are experiencing a severe wildfire season, and the effects are already widespread. The Government Operations Centre is working to coordinate the federal response to the wildfire situation across the country. Officials are working closely with federal and provincial partners to coordinate this assistance.

Under the Accord Acts, the federal and provincial governments have worked together under a joint management regime, sharing regulatory oversight of offshore energy resource development through joint Boards, the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (C-NLOPB) and the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board (CNSOPB).
The Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Natural Resources, and the Honourable Seamus O’Regan, Minister of Labour, on behalf of the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, announced up to $86 million in federal investments, subject to final negotiations, to convert the oil refinery in Come By Chance, Newfoundland and Labrador, into a world-class renewable diesel facility that will create hundreds of middle-class jobs, grow the economy and help power the province’s low-carbon future.
The Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Natural Resources, in partnership with the Governments of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador, introduced amendments to expand the mandates of the two historic Atlantic Accord Acts. These amendments will set the legislative framework for offshore renewable energy, enabling Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia to capitalize on their existing strengths and accelerate offshore wind development off Canada’s East Coast.
