In keeping with its commitment to reach agreements that are both fair to employees and reasonable for Canadians, the Government of Canada reached a tentative agreement with Canada’s largest federal public service union, the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC), on July 9, 2020. If ratified, the Government of Canada will have reached agreements covering close to 60 percent of public servants for this round of bargaining.

Like many Canadians across the country, in mid-March a large number of public servants traded their usual worksites for makeshift ones in their dining rooms and kitchens, while others served on the front lines of this pandemic. Many have worked long hours, in new and innovative ways, or taken on new responsibilities to ensure Canadians continue to receive the services they rely on during an uncertain time.
