Thank you, Christyne [Christyne Tremblay, Deputy Minister, Natural Resources Canada], and welcome to the heart of the universe - that's Winnipeg - and also to the very centre of the Government of Canada. In a way, it's a metaphor about where the country is right now when a Quebec Deputy Minister of the Environment can literally overnight become the Natural Resources Deputy Minister for Canada. I think that speaks of the importance of federal-provincial cooperation in a way that matters most.

What a pleasure to be with you. I have been following very closely all that you've been doing here over the last number of days. I want to start by acknowledging the ancestral, traditional, and unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations here in Vancouver. It's a privilege to be on the territory of these First Nations.

I'd like to first of all just say something about our Ambassador. I am privileged, Mr. Ambassador, to be the last Minister to visit the Philippines in your three-year term. And I do congratulate the Ambassador, who has served under Trudeau one way back in '83, to Trudeau two just recently. And you said no Minister has been to the Philippines since the new government. That's true if you don't count the Prime Minister as a Minister. But I think he did have a very successful visit here as well. So I thank you, Ambassador, for your great service not only to the Philippines but to Canada. So thank you very much.
Good afternoon. As you know, yesterday, the RCMP, acting on credible information of an imminent terrorist threat, took swift action to uphold public safety.
Please allow me to begin by thanking our friend, His Excellency Tony Negus, for the warm reception he and his team at the [Australian] High Commission have put on this afternoon. I can think of no better occasion for our first meeting than to celebrate the strong Canadian-Australian relationship by presenting this award.
