Thank you for that kind introduction. It's a pleasure to be here, and to be joined by Rick Thorpe and Laura Jones, recognized leaders in combatting red tape.
Red tape is the silent killer of jobs. It burdens all Canadians by restricting the innovation, productivity, and competitiveness of businesses, impeding economic growth, and stifling job creation.
It is a distinct pleasure for me to attend events hosted by the International Institute of Communications. They give me, as I'm sure they do you, the chance to understand the particular challenges being faced by fellow regulators, to hear the solutions you propose to overcome such difficulties and to take away lessons learned that may apply to my work back in Canada. I'm here as much to listen over these two days as I am to speak.
Good morning. Thank you, Robert (Goguen) for that kind introduction¬―and thanks also to Peoples Park for hosting us. I'm really pleased to be here. Today, Robert and I want to acknowledge the important role that seniors play in our families, communities, and workplaces.
Good morning, everyone! Thank you for your kind introduction. And my thanks to our regional team here in the Ministers' Regional Office for organizing and hosting us today.
I've raised four busy children, so I know first-hand that enrolling our kids in sports, recreational, and cultural activities is a good investment ... but the costs can certainly add up!
First, the future of transportation in this country and how the Government of Canada is preparing for it. And second, on a related note, protecting our marine environment and what we are doing – right now – to address this issue.
Thank you for that kind introduction; and to you, Janet and Iain and the Vancouver Board of Trade for inviting me to speak here today, and in particular for the more intimate roundtable we had moments before.
Thank you for joining us here today and thank you to the Ambassador for being such a gracious host here in Washington. If you'll indulge me folks I'd like to say a few words. This is my fourth official visit to the United States and second one to Washington.
