We solemnly remember the over 6 million Jews murdered in the Holocaust as well as the other victims of Nazism including 500,000 Roma and Sinti and numerous 2SLGBTQI+ persons, persons with disabilities and political dissidents persecuted and killed by the Nazis and their collaborators.

Canada is profoundly concerned over the escalation of violence in the eastern DRC, intensified by the advance of the March 23 Movement (M23) near Goma, and calls for the urgent protection of civilians. Today, the Government of Canada is announcing its intention to exercise provisions under the Canada Post Corporation Act that will allow Canada Post access of up to $1.034 billion in the 2025-26 fiscal year to maintain its solvency and ensure it can continue its operations as it faces ongoing financial challenges. Any cash provided will be on an as-needed basis to pay non-discretionary obligations. Canada Post is an essential service that connects Canadians from coast to coast to coast. It is often a lifeline for Canadians in rural, remote, and northern communities, and is vital to ensuring that these communities, that often have limited access to alternative mail and parcel delivery services, are not left behind. In addition, many small and medium-sized enterprises rely on Canada Post for parcel and letter delivery, which are essential to maintaining and growing their businesses.
Although significant progress has been made in the past several decades in reducing smoking rates in Canada, the Council of Chief Medical Officers of Health (CCMOH) want to highlight that smoking continues to pose a significant risk to the health of Canadians.
Today marks the beginning of National Non-Smoking Week begins, a time to raise awareness about the heath risks of smoking and the importance of supporting those on their journey to a smoke-free life. Tobacco use continues to be one of the leading preventable causes of premature death in Canada, claiming approximately 46,000 lives a year.
