The Honourable Julian Fantino, Minister of Veterans Affairs, visited the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto today to present Veterans with valentines handcrafted by Canadian students. School children, members of community organizations and individuals from across Canada were encouraged to create valentines for Veterans as a way of giving thanks to those who have served Canada. The program is particularly popular in schools where, through the 2014 Valentines for Vets campaign, more than 10,000 cards were made, giving students the opportunity to more fully appreciate and understand the tremendous sacrifices and achievements of Canada's men and women in uniform.

The clinic is held from February 9 to 14, 2014, at the Calabogie Peaks Resort. For those who have served Canada, the clinic promotes adaptive sports instruction and peer/mentor relationships-so effective for physical and mental health and rehabilitation. Veterans, injured soldiers and family members can take part in adaptive skiing, swimming, sledge hockey and other activities.

A masterfully crafted ice sculpture of a Great War Canadian "troop train" was officially unveiled earlier this evening during an annual Winterlude ice sculpture illumination ceremony in Ottawa. Parm Gill, MP for BramptonÂżSpringdale and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Veterans Affairs, and the Chief of the Defence Staff, General Tom Lawson, were on hand to officially light up the ice sculpture and to pay tribute to the Canadian men and women who served and sacrificed during the First World War.
Royal Canadian Legion Branch 183 (Frenchman Butte) will receive funding through the Veterans Affairs Canada Cenotaph/Monument Restoration Program to restore the Frenchman Butte Legion Cenotaph. The funding announcement was made today by Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz, on behalf of Veterans Affairs Minister Julian Fantino.
