While Canada and its international partners provide support to respond to the tragic Ebola outbreak ongoing now in Africa, I want to reassure Canadians that the risk to Canada is very low.
On August 8, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the recent outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease in West Africa, a public health emergency of international concern. The WHO has determined that a coordinated response from the international community is required in order to prevent further spread of the disease.

Today's announcement of $500,000 is supporting the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) efforts to increase the humanitarian system's response capacity to meet emergency needs in Asia.
