Sarah Van Den Boom's In Deep Waters, co-produced by the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) and Papy 3D, received the Festivals Connexion Award – Région Rhône-Alpes, presented in partnership with Lumières Numériques at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival's special awards ceremony on June 19. The jury members were Vanessa Lhoste (De l'écrit à l'écran Festival in Montélimar), Alexis Vachon (Saint-Paul-Trois-Châteaux Film Festival) and Julien Poujade (Rencontres des cinémas d'Europe in Aubenas).

The National Film Board of Canada (NFB) wishes to congratulate Matthew Rankin on winning the "Off-Limits" Award for his short film Mynarski: chute mortelle (Mynarski Death Plummet) at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. This independent animated short was supported by the NFB French Program's ACIC (Aide au cinéma indépendant – Canada) program and produced by the filmmaker and Gabrielle Tougas-Fréchette.

Federal funding helps make festival of the arts possible

An estimated 510 families with children in Nanaimo are eligible to receive money under the Harper Government's boosted Universal Child Care Benefit (UCCB), but are at risk of not receiving the benefit unless they apply. The Honourable Pierre Poilievre, Minister of Employment and Social Development, today asked for help from the media and the public to encourage families to apply for the benefit.
