For people of Asian heritage living in Canada, the Lunar New Year is a time to reflect on the past and think toward the future. It is also a time to recognize good fortune, honour ancestors and their example, and celebrate children, who hold such rich promise for the future.
February 1 marks the beginning of Black History Month. It presents the perfect opportunity to celebrate and highlight past and present contributions of black Canadians, who have done so much to allow Canada to become the prosperous and culturally diverse country it is today.
On February 1, Canadians of Irish descent honour St. Brigid, who is one of the patron saints of Ireland alongside St. Patrick and St. Columba. St. Brigid's Day has a special place in the hearts of members of the Irish community. In addition to marking the approach of spring, it symbolizes all the richness of Irish history and culture.
