The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today introduced legislation to tackle property theft, including the serious crimes of auto theft and trafficking in property that is obtained by crime.
The Honourable Peter Gordon MacKay, Minister of National Defence and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway, and General Walt Natynczyk, Chief of the Defence Staff, will be greeting soldiers returning from their deployment to Afghanistan. There will be just over sixty soldiers returning home on this flight.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning the public not to consume the foods described below because these products may be contaminated with Salmonella. These foods contain pistachios that have been recalled in the U.S. and Canada by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella Inc., due to Salmonella contamination.

The Bank of Canada today announced that it is lowering its target for the overnight rate by one-quarter of a percentage point to 1/4 per cent, which the Bank judges to be the effective lower bound for that rate. The Bank Rate is correspondingly lowered to 1/2 per cent. The deposit rate - the rate paid on deposits held by financial institutions at the Bank of Canada - is left unchanged at 1/4 per cent and provides the floor for the overnight rate.
