The Bank of Canada today announced that it is lowering its target for the overnight rate by one-quarter of a percentage point to 2 1/4 per cent. The operating band for the overnight rate is correspondingly lowered, and the Bank Rate is now 2 1/2 per cent.

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General and Commander-Chief of Canada and Patron of the Royal Canadian Legion, will receive the symbolic first poppy from Lieutenant General (Ret'd) Charles Belzile, the Honorary Grand President of the Legion, and Mr. Wilf Edmond, Dominion President. The ceremony, in advance of Remembrance Day, will take place on Thursday, October 23, 2008, at 2:30 p.m., at Rideau Hall.
