The Government of Canada is actively protecting the safety of Canada's food supply. The investigation into melamine contamination has been expanded to include other potentially affected products in addition to infant formula. Specifically, products made from milk or milk-derived ingredients that could contain contaminated product are being examined. Milk-derived ingredients include whole milk powder, non-fat milk powder, whey powder, lactose powder, and casein.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Regent Long Marketing and Distribution Ltd. are advising people not to consume the Nissin Cha Cha Dessert described below. This product was made using Yili Pure Milk, in which melamine was detected by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's Centre of Food Safety.
The Ministry of Health of China has confirmed that melamine contaminated milk and milk products are responsible for kidney problems in over 6000 infants, including several who have died.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Cuisine Malimousse Inc. are warning people with allergies to milk proteins not to consume Oceania Duo Mousse Lobster with tomatoes & basil / Smoked Salmon & pesto described below. The affected product contains milk which is not declared in English on the label. The French ingredients list has milk declared.
In cooperation with the United Nations' World Food Program (WFP), Her Majesty's Canadian Ship St. John's is currently engaged in a life-saving effort involving the delivery by sea and air of 350 metric tonnes of urgently needed relief supplies, including food aid, to the affected south and southwest regions of Haiti.
