Canada Welcomes Zimbabwean Power-Sharing Agreement

The Government of Canada today issued the following statement on the signing of a power-sharing agreement in Harare after weeks of negotiation: This agreement provides a framework for power sharing between ZANU-PF and the Movement for Democratic Change. On March 29, 2008, the people of Zimbabwe signalled their desire for change. We are encouraged to see this reflected in the leadership role accorded to opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai, as prime minister and chair of the Council of Ministers.
