RESOLUTE BAY - The Government of Canada is recognizing 50 years of research and scientific support in Canada's Arctic by the Polar Continental Shelf Project (PCSP) with an open house on July 12 at the Polar Shelf base in Resolute. Local residents, community leaders, media, staff and researchers are participating in the celebrations.

The Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, today signed an agreement with Poland that allows youth from Canada and Poland to travel and work in the other country for up to one year. After signing, ratification will take place in accordance with Canada's new policy on the tabling of international treaties in Parliament.
Communities in Newfoundland and Labrador will take part in a celebration of poetry and music next March, thanks to an investment by the Government of Canada.

The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour and Minister of Canada Economic Development, today announced $91,250 in repayable funding to Portes Béginois Inc., a wood processing enterprise, in order to increase its production of standard units. At a total cost of $381,000, this project will help maintain 35 jobs and improve the competitiveness of the firm, which is the major employer of the small community of Bégin.

The Minister of Public Safety, the Honourable Stockwell Day, today announced that effective July 14, 2008, the Government of Canada will offer extended border services at the Moncton, Fredericton and Charlottetown airports. This investment of an estimated $1 million per year will extend the hours of border services to 16 hours a day (from 8 a.m. to midnight), 7 days a week.
The contingent of some 205 Canadian Forces (CF) personnel participating in this year's Nijmegen Marches will begin their journey though the countryside and crowded streets of towns and villages in the Nijmegen area on July 15.
