January 26, 2015 - Salmon Arm, British Columbia In the Columbia-Shuswap Regional District, the federal government has partnered with the British Columbia Conservation Foundation to improve fish habitat along the Shuswap Lake shoreline and Salmon River. Member of Parliament Colin Mayes, on behalf of the Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, highlighted today the Government of Canada's investment in these projects. Through the Recreational Fisheries Conservation Partnerships Program (RFCPP), the British Columbia Conservation Foundation will receive up to $111,223 to support the conservation of fish habitat in the Shuswap Lake area.

Residents of North Eastern Ontario are benefitting from improvements to their local roads thanks to investments from the federal Gas Tax Fund. In 2014, 61 essential local roads projects in 48 communities were completed, providing a smoother and safer ride to drivers in the Cochrane, Hearst, New Liskeard, North Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury and Timmins areas.

The Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Health, Canada's Chief Public Health Officer, Dr. Gregory Taylor, Terry Lake, British Columbia's Minister of Health and Dr. Bonnie Henry, British Columbia's Deputy Provincial Health Officer today confirmed that an individual in B.C. has tested positive for the H7N9 avian influenza strain. The individual recently returned to Canada from China. This is the first documented case of H7N9 infection in a human in North America.
