The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) today approved the structure and mandate of the Canadian Administrator of Video Relay Service. Earlier this year, the CRTC approved this telecommunications service, which will enable Canadians across the country to place phone calls and communicate using American Sign Language (ASL) or Quebec Sign Language (QSL) where the technology is available. The administrator will operate the video relay service and oversee its performance independently from the CRTC.

The Governments of Canada and Manitoba are joining efforts to help youth in Winnipeg develop the skills and experience they need to find jobs. The announcement was made today by Lawrence Toet, Member of Parliament for Elmwood¿Transcona, on behalf of the Honourable Candice Bergen, Minister of State for Social Development, and the Honourable Kevin Chief, Manitoba Minister of Jobs and the Economy.
The $7.8 million investment will be used to purchase 185 new-generation year-round buoys and to deploy them between Montréal and Québec City. These lighted buoys will increase navigational safety on the fluvial section. The buoys will be lifted every two years rather than twice a year, as is currently the case, which will increase service efficiency. They are specially designed to withstand the harsh, icy conditions of the St. Lawrence.

The federal Offshore Health and Safety Act received Royal Assent on June 19, 2014, with the Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador provincial Acts having received Royal Assent in 2013.
