September 20, 2004 Rogersville, New Brunswick The Village of Rogersville will receive $2,254,000 under the Canada - New Brunswick Infrastructure Program for the upgrade of the municipality's waste water infrastructure. The announcement was made today by Charles Hubbard, MP for Miramichi; Rose-May Poirier, Minister for the Office of Human Resources and MLA for Rogersville-Kouchibouguac and Bertrand LeBlanc, Mayor of Rogersville. "Among the many benefits, this project will allow the Village to meet current provincial regulatory guidelines for effluent discharge," said Hubbard. "The Government of Canada, through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), is pleased to partner in this essential project. It takes all levels of government working together with key stakeholders to achieve good infrastructure projects that will improve the quality of life of Canadians in urban, rural and remote communities across the country." "The Government of New Brunswick recognizes the necessity of developing and maintaining adequate infrastructure in both large and small communities," said Minister Poirier on behalf of Premier Bernard Lord, Minister Responsible for the Regional Development Corporation, and Environment and Local Government Minister Brenda Fowlie. "Projects that protect our people and our environment, such as wastewater system upgrades, are very important and we are committed to enhancing our quality of life by improving this type of municipal infrastructure. The provincial government is pleased to partner with the federal government and the Village of Rogersville to improve the municipality's wastewater treatment services." "The Village of Rogersville is proud to work in partnership with the provincial and federal governments on this project to construct a new lagoon and extend the sanitary sewer system," said Leblanc. "The project will enable us to better protect the environment, while meeting the needs of residents and supporting future economic development." This project involves the installation of a new lagoon; four new lift stations, and force mains to accommodate the northern, southern and eastern part of the village and the decommissioning of the two existing lagoons that serve the northern and southern parts of the village. To date, 85 projects have been announced in New Brunswick under the Infrastructure Program, for total funding of approximately $153 million. In New Brunswick, ACOA is responsible for the implementation of the Canada-New Brunswick Infrastructure Program, while the Department of Environment and Local Government, in conjunction with the Regional Development Corporation, are the provincial jurisdictions responsible for the implementation of the agreement. Each of the three levels of government will contribute one third of the eligible costs of the projects.
