24 September 2004 St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador A trade team from the Canadian Consulate General in Boston, along with trade experts from New England, will be in Corner Brook and Grand Falls-Windsor next week to deliver export education sessions on the U.S. market. Canada's Consul General to New England, the Honourable Ronald A. Irwin, is leading the delegation. The seminars, which are open to local businesses interested in exporting, will begin with information sessions and roundtable discussions in Corner Brook on September 28th. Similar sessions will take place in Grand Falls-Windsor on September 29th. The events are being organized by International Trade Canada, in partnership with the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), the Newfoundland and Labrador Economic Developers Association, the provincial Department of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development and the Town of Grand Falls-Windsor. ACOA is providing $16,489 towards the initiative under its Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership. "Export skills are a key part of business development, and the Canadian Consulate General in Boston has a wealth of market-entry intelligence to share with participants," said the Honourable John Efford, Minister of Natural Resources Canada, on behalf of ACOA. "These export sessions will provide a valuable opportunity for local companies to prepare for doing business in the United States, particularly the New England market." The Canadian Consulate in Boston promotes business development, investment, culture and information exchange between Canada and the New England states of Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. "New England offers a wide range of opportunities for companies, communities and scientific organizations who wish to find new export markets, to attract foreign investment and to nurture technology cooperation. In addition to delegates from the Canadian Consulate General in Boston, representatives from the New England business community will attend, including a building products representative and a seafood buyer, as well as representatives from the legal profession and the United States Department of Homeland Security.
