October 22, 2004 OTTAWA -- Defence Minister Bill Graham is pleased to announce the award of the following selected contracts for the month of August 2004. SUPPLY CONTRACTS TORONTO, ON - A $3,252,312 contract was awarded to Vislmage Systems Incorporated to improve the body scanning measurement systems used by the Canadian Forces and to supply eight additional systems. The body scanning system ( BOSS) is a touchless, body measuring and sizing system used to measure military personnel for an accurate uniform fit. This cost efficient system reduces alterations and uniform returns. The BOSS system was developed cooperatively by the military and Vislmage Systems Incorporated and was first implemented in 2003. The systems are expected to be delivered by August 2008. NORTH YORK, ON - Two contracts worth $1,059,300 were awarded to Lonix Hats Incorporated to supply combat hats to Canadian Forces Supply Depots in Montreal and in Edmonton. The first contract, worth $385,200 is for the supply and delivery of 20,000 temperate woodland green combat hats in the Canadian Disruptive Pattern (CADPAT) with delivery beginning in November 2004. The second contract, worth $674,100 is for the supply and delivery of 35,000 combat hats in CADPAT, arid region, with delivery beginning in January 2005. LACHUTE, QC - A $444,050 contract was awarded to Signaux EVAN Incorporated to provide 500,000 metres of detonating cord, a flexible tube containing a core of explosives. The cord is expected to be delivered to Canadian Forces Ammunition Depot in Dundurn, Saskatchewan in November 2004. TORONTO, ON - A $283,497 contract was awarded to Scepter Corporation for the supply of 11,000 plastic cans to be used in military vehicles for the transportation, storage and handling of fuel and water. The cans are to be shipped to Canadian Forces Supply Depots in Montreal and Edmonton. Delivery is expected in October 2004. REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE CONTRACTS VICTORIA, BC - A $407,619 contract was awarded to Point Hope Maritime Limited for w ork on YDG-3, one of two Deperming Barges, located in Esquimalt, British Columbia. The refit of the vessel will include painting, repair and refitting of the propulsion, mechanical and electrical systems and the implementation of engineering changes. Work is expected to be completed by November 2004. VICTORIA, BC - A $191,675 contract was awarded to Jenkins Marine Limited for work on YAG-660 "Black Duck," one of two Diving Tender vessels in Esquimalt, British Columbia. Work will include painting of the hull and accommodation areas, the repair and refitting of propulsion, mechanical and electrical systems and the implementation of engineering changes.
