Canada-Quebec Infrastructure Works Program 2000 CANTLEY, OCTOBER 15, 2004 -- Réjean Lafrenière, Member of the National Assembly for Gatineau, on behalf of Yvon Marcoux, Quebec Minister of Transport, and David Smith, Member of Parliament for Pontiac, on behalf of Jacques Saada, Minister of Canada Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Francophonie, are pleased to announce that the Municipality of Cantley, located in the Outaouais region, will be receiving government financial assistance of $332,000 under the Canada-Quebec Infrastructure Works Program. These funds will be used to carry out a local transportation infrastructure project. This undertaking, for which the eligible costs total $498,000, will enable the municipality to repair Sainte-Élisabeth Road. Under the Canada-Quebec agreement, the Government of Quebec, via the organization Infrastructures-Transport, will provide $166,000 of this amount and the Government of Canada will provide $166,000. The contribution of the Municipality of Cantley will make up the remainder of the required funding. The municipal project, which meets the promising objectives of the program, is being carried out by virtue of the second component of the Canada-Quebec agreement pertaining to local transportation facilities, which aims to enable municipalities, urban transport organizations and local railway companies to build, improve or renovate local transportation systems. Réjean Lafrenière, speaking on behalf of the Government of Quebec and David Smith, speaking on behalf of the Government of Canada, are delighted by the positive effects of this initiative which will help improve community facilities and the quality of life of residents, as well as promote the full development of the region's economic potential. Under the Canada-Quebec Infrastructure Works 2000 program, created as a result of the Canada-Quebec agreement signed October 20, 2000, $1.6 billion in investments are planned in Quebec over a six-year period. The program features three components: the first is aimed at drinking water and wastewater systems, the second at local transportation facilities and the third at projects of an economic, urban and/or regional nature. Canada Economic Development administers the federal portion of the program.
