For immediate release PORT MOODY, December 22, 2004 -- Two competitive contracts have been awarded to two B.C. companies for the construction of Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) buildings in the province. The first contract, for $2,931,800, has been awarded to Yellowridge Construction Ltd., of Port Moody, to construct a new building for the RCMP Detachment in New Hazelton. The second contract, worth $1,602,271, has been awarded to Tri-City Contracting Ltd., of Kamloops, to construct a new building for the detachment in Keremeos. The announcement was made today by the Honourable David L. Emerson, Minister of Industry, on behalf of the Honourable Scott Brison, Minister of Public Works and Government Services. "The construction of the new buildings will help the RCMP fulfill its national mandate," said Minister Emerson. "They will enhance the ability of the Mounties to ensure safer communities through their highly successful community-centred policing model. The Government of Canada is committed to the safety and security of Canadians in all regions." Each company will construct a new building, a parking area, access roads as well as a septic field. It will also carry out remedial work such as landscaping and paving of the area around the work site. New Hazelton and Keremeos are part of 139 RCMP detachments across British Columbia. Funding for these contracts was provided for in the March 2004 Federal Budget.
