CAMPBELLTON, January 24, 2005 -- A new apartment building involving 10 affordable housing units for individuals will be built in Campbellton thanks to funding under the Canada-New Brunswick Affordable Housing Program Agreement.Jean-Claude D'Amours, MP Madawaska-Resitgouche, on behalf of the Honourable Joe Fontana, Minister of Labour and Housing, and Tony Huntjens, Minister of Family and Community Services, today announced funding for this project."This development is a good example of the various levels of government working together to address the needs of the community," said Mr. D'Amours. "We are pleased to be making this investment to create affordable housing units for the residents of Campbellton.""We are pleased to work with our non-profit and governmental parteners in such an important project for non-elderly singles of the Campbellton region," said Family and Community Services Minister Tony Huntjens. "The role of the non-profit sector is very important in this Affordable Rental Housing Program. We are always striving towards the development of similar projects throughout the province in order to create more affordable housing for New Brunswickers."The project involves a 10-unit apartment building developed by Campbellton Senior Citizens Housing Inc. Under the Affordable Rental Housing Program, the project will receive $350,000 in federal funding to offset the construction costs, as well as over $400,000 in rent supplements from the Province of New Brunswick for all 10 units.The Canada-New Brunswick Affordable Housing Agreement involves investments of over $38 million in the creation of up to 700 housing units in New Brunswick.
