March 24, 2005 New performance solution will offer cost savings of up to $1M at the RCM's Ottawa facility. Ottawa, Ontario -- The Royal Canadian Mint today announced that they have awarded Siemens Building Technologies, a division of Siemens Canada Limited, a contract to supply energy services. New energy services will reduce extensive costly maintenance, with potential cost savings of up to $1M annually. As part of the RCM's plans to increase efficiencies in their offices and manufacturing facility, Siemens is supplying new chillers and boilers, replacing old air compressors with new energy efficient ones. Siemens will also provide two new supply air units with variable air volume terminal boxes that replace older fan coils. The agreement will also see the replacement of an exhaust filtration unit with a modern filtering unit in the Mint's process operation. "The Royal Canadian Mint was looking into ways to become a more energy-efficient institution, to create a comfortable environment for our employees, and reduce energy-related expenses", said David C. Dingwall, President and C.E.O. of the Royal Canadian Mint. "We are delighted to work with Siemens Canada towards the achievement of these objectives." "We are pleased to be able to provide the Royal Canadian Mint with these unique energy saving components in this high security environment," said Dr. Albert Maringer, President & CEO of Siemens Canada. ¿It was our goal to provide the most innovative solutions to reduce future energy costs and provide a new infrastructure program which will reduce overall maintenance requirements at the Mint." The implementation of the project began in January 2005 and is expected to be completed in 18 months. During this period, Siemens and the RCM will work closely with each other to ensure all the components are integrated seamlessly into the existing process.
