April 7, 2005 Ottawa -- John McCallum, Minister Responsible for Canada Post, today announced the proposed appointment of Moya Greene as President and Chief Executive Officer of Canada Post. The proposed appointment will be referred to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates for review. The Minister looks forward to receiving the results of the Standing Committee's review as soon as possible. "Ms. Greene will come to this position with significant federal government and private sector management experience", said Minister McCallum. "The Board of Canada Post believes that the expertise gained by Ms. Greene in her previous positions would be a tremendous asset to the organization. Having reviewed her impressive background, I agree." As a federal public servant, Ms. Greene held executive positions at the former departments of Consumer and Corporate Affairs, the Federal-Provincial Relations Office and Human Resources Development Canada. She also served as Assistant Deputy Minister at Transport Canada. After moving to the private sector, Ms. Greene became a Managing Director at TD Securities, then Senior Vice President / Chief Administration Officer, Retail Products at CIBC, and most recently was Senior Vice President, Operational Effectiveness at Bombardier Inc. Ms. Greene was named one of the Top 100 Influential Women in Canada by the National Post in 2003, and one of the Top 40 Female Corporate Executives in Canada in 2004 by the Women's Executive Network and the Ivey School of Business. Canada Post utilized the new Government of Canada Crown Corporation appointment procedures to select Ms. Greene from a field of highly qualified candidates. Selection criteria for the CEO position were published in newspapers and the Canada Gazette, and an extensive search was conducted with the assistance of a professional recruitment firm. The Canada Post Board of Directors unanimously recommended to the Minister that Ms. Greene be considered for the position of President and CEO of Canada Post. She has acquired a strong track record in strategic planning, complex negotiation and relationship building. This experience was recently recognized by the Women's Executive Network and the Ivey School of Business when Ms. Greene was named one of Canada's top 40 female corporate executives. Ms. Greene has also a strong public sector background. She spent the first part of her career in Ottawa where, over a 17-year period, Ms. Greene assumed progressively senior roles in seven different Ministries of the federal public service. Ms. Greene started her public service career in 1979 as an Immigration Adjudicator, and moved from there to take on senior policy positions first in the Department of Labour, and subsequently in the Privy Council Office, where she held the senior policy position responsible for transportation. Ms. Greene has managed a number of difficult federal-provincial files as well, first in her capacity as Director of Inter-Provincial Affairs in the Department of Consumer and Corporate Affairs and later in the Office of Federal -Provincial Relations. Over the course of her public service career, Ms. Greene was responsible for large and complex strategies often involving difficult multi-national files and a wide array of competing sectoral interests. As Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy, in the Department of Transportation, Ms. Greene was responsible for broad reform of the over-burdened transportation system; the privatization of CN; the deregulation of the Canadian airline industry; and the commercialization of the Canadian port system. Reform was also her mandate when, as Director-General, Policy, Ms. Greene led the effort to overhaul the Unemployment Insurance System. Ms. Greene is a graduate of Osgoode Law School and Memorial University of Newfoundland and is considered by colleagues and former employers as a strong strategic leader and adept at managing difficult and complex stakeholder relationships.
