MEDIA ADVISORY MSPA 01 05 - May 2, 2005 HALIFAX -- Vice-Admiral Bruce MacLean, the Commander of Canada's Navy, will make the final report of the HMCS Chicoutimi board of inquiry public at a news conference on 05 May 05 at 11 a.m. The conference will take place at HMCS Scotian, located at 2111 Lower Water Street. Vice-Admiral MacLean convened the Chicoutimi BOI to investigate the fires and casualties that occurred in HMCS Chicoutimi on October 5 th. -30- Note: Media wishing to attend the news conference are asked to call Navy Public Affairs at 902-427-6688 prior to noon on Wednesday, 04 May. Please advise Public Affairs staff at this time of any specific needs such as parking for satellite trucks. Two other opportunities exist for media: A tour of a submarine will be conducted on 05 May, from 7:30 to 9 a.m. At this time the tour is planned to occur in HMCS Chicoutimi , however this may change due to possible operational requirements. Regrettably, as space is quite restricted in a submarine, the tour must be limited to 10 media representatives and therefore we will only be signing up one media representative per agency. Cellular phones, Blackberrys, pagers, or any other communications devices will not be authorized. Media wishing to participate are to call Navy Public Affairs at 902-427-6981. Further information will be provided once the media list is finalized. Media will be given access to the BOI report and other documentation during a "lock up" that will occur from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on 05 May , at HMCS Scotian. Once inside the room media representatives will not be allowed to leave until the end of the prescribed time. Cellular phones, Blackberrys, pagers, cameras, or any other electronic devices will not be authorized within the room. Media will be able to leave these items in the custody of military personnel who will ensure their safety. Media wishing to attend this event are asked to call Navy Public Affairs at 902-427-6688. Anyone participating in the tour of the submarine is automatically subject to the lock up. This includes camera operators and photographers.
