Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) Minister Joseph
McGuire outlined the Atlantic Canada Advantage this morning
during a breakfast in Trondheim, Norway attended by
Norwegian business leaders and potential investors. "Our aquaculture, R&D, oil and gas, ICT, and other emerging
knowledge-based industries in particular provide attractive
investment opportunities for businesses in Norway," said
Minister McGuire. "This morning's breakfast with potential
investors provided a platform to showcase our region. And
the message was heard loud and clear."During his address, Minister McGuire promoted the region as
a profitable place to do business and referred to Norwegian
businesses such as Aker Kvaener Group that have set up
operations in Atlantic Canada. The Minister is in the city
leading a delegation of 23 Atlantic Canadian aquaculture
businesses and organizations on a technology, trade and
investment mission. As part of the mission, the delegation
is participating in Aqua Nor, the largest aquaculture trade
show in the world, held biennially in Norway. "Due to Canada's role as the featured country at Aqua Nor
2005, our visibility is further enhanced here in Norway
this week," said Minister McGuire. "Businesses, investors
and industry leaders are listening to our message."Minister McGuire said the event promoted the region and
provided information to Norwegian companies and senior
government officials that will enable them to make informed
decisions in investing in Atlantic Canada.ACOA is leading the Atlantic Canada technology, trade and
investment mission to Norway, in partnership with
Newfoundland Aquaculture Industry Association, Fisheries
and Oceans Canada, National Research Council Canada -
Industrial Research Assistance Program, and the Canadian
Embassy in Norway.Norway is one of Canada's most important Nordic trading
partners, ranking second after Denmark. Canadian exports to
Norway totalled $1.5 billion in 2004 while Atlantic Canada
exports accounted for $78.9 million.
