OTTAWA -- Defence Minister Bill Graham has approved appointments for several Canadian Forces general and flag officers.
"Effective leadership is crucial to success in the profession of arms," said Minister Graham. "I am pleased to announce these appointments, as these senior officers all possess the knowledge, talent and experience required to meet the objectives of the Defence Policy Statement and the transformation of the Canadian Forces."
The following appointments are in addition to the senior appointments announced in January and February:
Rear-Admiral Ian Mack, former Commander, Canadian Defence Liaison Staff (Washington), will not retire and is assigned to the Vice Chief of Defence Staff Group at National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa.
Brigadier-General Daniel Benjamin will remain Director General Land Staff at National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa.
Brigadier-General Chris Davis has been appointed Director General Land Combat Development at National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa, replacing Brigadier-General Ward.
Brigadier-General Glenn Nordick is appointed Chief Defence Intelligence at National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa, replacing Major-General Gauthier whose appointment as Commander, Canadian Expeditionary Forces Command was announced earlier.
Brigadier-General Michael J. Ward has been appointed Chief of Staff J3 (Operations) at National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa, replacing Brigadier-General J. R. Gaston Coté who will retire.
Brigadier-General Greg Young, a Reservist, has been appointed to the newly-created position of Deputy Commander, Land Force Doctrine and Training System in Kingston, Ont.
Captain (Navy) Andrea Siew, a Reservist, will be promoted Commodore AWSE (Acting While So Employed) and appointed Director General Military Signals Intelligence at the Communications Security Establishment.
"Our success depends on capable individuals who possess the necessary knowledge and vision," said General Rick Hillier, Chief of the Defence Staff. "I am confident that these officers possess the experience, the professionalism, the ethos and the values that are needed to lead the men and women of the Canadian Forces into the future."
The total number of Regular Force generals and naval flag officers stands at 73. This number does not include General Ray Henault, who is not performing a Canadian Forces function.
